LIFE
About the LIFE Programme
LIFE is the EU's flagship programme for nature, biodiversity protection and the fight against climate change. From 2021, energy efficiency and renewable energy projects will also benefit from funding via LIFE with an increase in budget that reflects the agreement found under the EU's long term-budget (MFF) to apply an overall climate target of 30% to the total amount of expenditure from the EU's MFF and Next Generation EU recovery instrument.
The Programme's general objective is to contribute to the implementation, updating and development of EU environmental and climate policy and legislation by co-financing projects with European added value. The programme is managed by the European Commission (DG Environment and DG Climate Action) which delegated the implementation of many components thereof to the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EASME). The aforementioned institutes are assisted by external selection, monitoring and communication teams. Finally, the two new financial instruments (NCFF and PF4EE) are managed by the European Investment Bank.
