About the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme
The Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme aims to protect and promote rights and values as enshrined in the EU treaties and the Charter of Fundamental Rights. Particular attention is given to supporting civil society organisations active at local, regional, national and transnational level. It particularly aims to sustain and develop open, rights-based, democratic, equal and inclusive societies based on the rule of law. For that purpose, the program is based on four strands:
- Promoting equality, rights and gender equality
- Promoting citizen’s engagement and participation
- The Daphne programme, combatting violence against children, young people and women in Europe.
- Protect and promote Union values
Opportunities for Aruba
In the National Strategic Plan of 2020, DEACI introduced the strategy for the period of 2020-2022 to shape and safeguard a prosperous future for Aruba. With regards to good governance, it noted that importance of respect, freedom, and equal opportinies. Particularly important are respect for and freedom of alliance/union and expression and organized civil society, as well participation by everyone, regardless of sex, age, origin, race, religion, believes, political preferences and/or social class/status. Participation is a crucial cornerstone of good governance. This can only be achieved through accountable, consensus orientated, transparent, effective and efficient, responsive, equitable and inclusive governance, following the rule of law.
